Category filter not working in some non-english websites?

This is a known issue where the category string if in other languages is changed to special characters which is not yet compatible with the plugin: 

We are working on this issue. Meanwhile you could use the image category name as normal and keep the slug a numeric value.

For eg (notice the category name and the alphabetic slug 1).
